Kendal U8s Rugby Festival

This was part of a series of World Cup events that have been held in the region over the last couple of months to promote the sport for younger age groups. 16 teams competed on four pitches and players from the Sale Sharks were on hand to speak to the youngsters and sign autographs. This was a participation event with no winners or losers, the emphasis being on fun and learning.

Keswick played three separate matches against Upper Eden, Kendal and Penrith, the format was five-a-side with rolling subs to ensure all ten players received plenty of playing time. Keswick played very well and gained valuable matchplay experience given that several of the team were playing their first ever game.

All the players received medals at the end of the day which were presented to the kids by Keswick stalwart and last week’s match winning try scorer Andy Wallace. All the players had a great day and were once again well supported by some very proud parents.

This age group is going from strength to strength which is a promising sign for the future of the club, training this week is from 10:30 until 11.45am at the rugby club and all newcomers are welcome to come along and give it a try. Keswick will be fielding a team at the Newcastle Falcons tournament to be held on Sunday the 1st of November, this is a fantastic day out, very well organised and the kids stay to watch the Falcons play the Exeter Chiefs after their own matches. f you would like to go to this it is free for the children and adults can buy subsidised tickets to watch the match afterwards.
