Keswick seconds travelled away last Saturday with a healthy squad of 26 players to take on Cockermouth who fielded a very experienced team with quite a few old 1st teamers mixed in with few of their youngsters. Keswick started the game being very solid in the pack especially against a much bigger and more experienced Cockermouth 8. Joe Quail,as always, led by example and young guns Ethan Sains, Henry Etisoy and Dan Sant were excellent in the set piece and breakdown. Keswick completely dominated the lineouts and won all of their own put in and stole 85% of Cockermouth's. Dan Harrison, Matty Atkinson and the returning Richard Fletcher were superb in this area.
Man of the Match Cameron Lawler had an excellent game at scrum half driving the forwards on, sniping round the fringes and giving the backs quick ball.
Bruce Rigby was a calming influence in the backs and gave good direction in the 1st half. When Keswick had the opportunity to move the ball wide the moves were highly effective with Danny Price coming into the line from full back at pace and getting his just rewards with 2 tries. Lewis Thompson converted both tries and added a penalty. Because Keswick had 26 players in total, wholesale changes were made to give everyone a game and it took time to get going which allowed Cockermouth back into the match. Cockermouth never gave up and pushed Keswick all the way. In what was a great game of rugby played in the right spirit Keswick came out on top by 17 points to 12.
