40 women have now taken part this week in the touch rugby sessions, some had played before, but many had no experience at all.

“Following on from the fantastic growth of our girls teams we decided the time was right to launch our first ever Women’s Rugby Team” said Head of Youth Rugby, Alan Weightman. “We advertised these taster sessions and have been blown away by the response”.

Steph Radcliffe, Coach, said “We hope to have a competitive team eventually, but for now the emphasis is on having fun, making new friends and getting fit along the way. We hope that more women will join us as we have so much to offer.

“We were delighted that Evie Tonkin, who played for the club as a girl and is now a Scotland International, came down and joined in the action and gave words of encouragement and support to the players” said Alan.

The next session is on Saturday 19th September at midday, but after that it will continue on regular Wednesday Nights 6.30-7.45pm. If you fancy joining in, please come down - you just need a pair of trainers!
