Only 10 falcons available for a trip to sunny Tynedale. With the low numbers we were fortunate to borrow a couple of their players. The Tynedale girls (made up of Tynedale and Gosforth) were great and the junior Falcons were praised by the Tynedale crowd for welcoming and getting the borrowed players involved (and being really friendly).
The match was to be played in 3x 15min slots to allow the borrowed players to rotate.
Keswick kicking off, a quick chase and pressure, a beautifully jackaled ball, quick hands and the first score to the falcons within a minute of the kick off. This was the way the game continued, after racking up 28 points in the first 15 the Tynedale girls didn’t want to leave the Keswick fold.
The second 15 I asked questions of the Keswick players, can we set a better ruck?, can we make more space?, how are the defence lined up? What can we do to beat that. The game slowed but the points kept coming, with players making breaks in those identified gaps. The final scoreline was 0-83 to the Keswick girls, testament to their hard work. The reason the game continued was that the Tynedale girls (in their words) really enjoyed playing Keswick, that they were more than happy continuing after Keswick broke the 50 point margin. Congratulations to Niamh C and Caitlyn H for their first tries for the club.
I’m hoping the girls take this new found confidence and thinking rugby into next weekend and our first County Cup game ????
