KRFC Decathlon 2025 Brings Club Together
Keswick Rugby Football Club’s Decathlon 2025 proved to be a resounding success on Friday 5th September, as over 120 players plus families, friends, and supporters filled the grounds for an evening of fun, competition, and community spirit.
The event truly embodied the spirit of togetherness, with parents, children, siblings—and in one case, three generations of the same family on display. From Minis to Seniors, teams were mixed across age groups and tested across ten rugby-inspired challenges.
Two crowd favourites stood out: the ‘Wall Climb’, refereed by James Benson, which highlighted teamwork as the key to victory, and the ‘Try Slide’, expertly refereed by the effervescent Lucy King, which had everyone laughing, slipping, and getting soaked in the name of fun. The atmosphere was electric, with cheers echoing from the touchline as players urged each other on and spectators joined in the excitement.
Parents, social members, and former players also played a big part—refereeing events, and cheering loudly—helping to create the promised carnival atmosphere. The bar and food proved a big hit, with plenty of friends reconnecting and new bonds formed.
Reflecting on the evening, organiser Ben Paxon said:
“Having just completed our ‘BIG Build Project’ we are now looking to have some fun. We couldn’t have asked for a better night. Being part of a rugby team is truly special, bringing the best out of all of us—but this wasn’t just about rugby, it was about celebrating our shared passion for the club and the community around it. The smiles and look of awe on the faces of junior players, playing alongside their senior idols, was incredibly rewarding. Special mention must go to our Falcons Touch Rugby team, who came in force while many other senior players had weekend commitments—their interaction with the juniors was brilliant to see. Many of us didn’t know each other very well before the event, playing on different teams that train and play on different days. The Decathlon event brought different groups together and scores of new friendships were made. Outstanding!”
The coveted title of Decathlon Champions 2025 was eventually claimed by the Hookers Team, but the real victory lay in the laughter, camaraderie, and sense of unity that shone throughout the evening. The challenges sparked plenty of banter, while the whole-club photographs captured a powerful snapshot of the KRFC family, united in full force.
With the Decathlon now firmly established as a highlight of the KRFC calendar, excitement is already building for its return in 2026.
