Keswick vs Kirby Lonsdale u15’s. Sunday 1st February 2026

Emma Benson3 Feb - 21:31

A well fought game by both teams and most certainly a team result by Keswick.

The lads have shown potential of being a great team with a few ups and downs through out the seasons. Sometimes it clicks…

Today they brought 19 players to the game, giving us the opportunity to rest players when needed.

The game kicked off and immediately both teams were running hard whilst the opposition tackled and waited for the mistake or turnover.
Keswick played a slick game with ball handling much improved and reaching the desired target, whether that was the crash or the wing.

Keswick finally found the gap they were looking for and put the pace of Fugle to good use.
Fugle found good speed manoeuvring the last two defenders to score in the corner.
A further ten minutes of intense tackling and rucking, from the whole team gave the backs good hands to let Edward score after a 20yd dash.
The combination of Hebson and Ray moving the ball swiftly then allowed Fugle to hit the hole who then supported by Coombes, received the ball to score a well manufactured try.

Not letting there heads drop KL came back and pummelled there way down the pitch. A hard fought fight for territory and a dominant scrum created gaps taking Wright (kl) across the line.
Keswick were not to be stopped, the work rate of Godfrey, Wharmby, Abusnineh and captain Hersleman secured ball and made a solid platform for the backs to work off. Through good hands across the pitch, continually putting pressure on the KL defence. Edward found the break and snuck across the line, finally leaving a conversion less than 40 m from the post for Ray to convert.
Keswick closed the first half out in the lead and with high expectations for it to stay that way.
Ray kicked off and immediately
the Keswick pack got straight back into it. ogolo-cork, Drury, Grayham, Ewart and super sub Ofole to name a few rucked with the intensity that was asked and providing the time for their team mates to move up the pitch. On this occasion a storming run by Abusnineh saw him break two tackles and take a further two to bring him down, leaving the gap and quick reactions of Hebson to take the next try.
From the restart KL who were not to be put down took the ball straight into the Keswick 5, big repeated runs saw Mason cross the line. He then followed it up with the conversion.
Keswick now feeling a little rattled by the quick turn around needed to gain control. With fragile play Keswick opted to play ten metres from their own try line !! The ball finally found Rays boot sending it down the pitch and for a hopeful breather…. Godfrey chased and with some incredible football skill dribbled the ball across the line where he missed the ball, frantically jumping back up he applied the down ward pressure required to award the try. Ray went onto convert.
KL were not out of energy yet, using powerful runners, well set rucks and the speed of their backs they found the gap they wanted, taking mason across the line for his second try.
The next ten minutes saw a furious battle of tired bodies hitting lines, rucking, tackling and relentlessly swapping possession of the ball.
The Keswick pack who struggled to keep a steady scrum found vision in crashing the ball up one side through hands and then the other. Finally in front of the posts a ruck was established and Wharmby took the chance, catching the defence wrong footed and crashing over the line. Ray went on to convert the try.
In the dying minutes of the game Keswick held possession and not to be satisfied with seeing the game out, pushed back up the pitch with a team effort which then allowed Edward to use his swivel hips and move comfortably through the defence for the last try of the game.

Keswick are at home in a cup match vs Carlisle next Sunday 10:30. Can they hold their composure…….
