Keswick Falcons U18 51 V 0 Penrith

Keswick U18 girls hosted Penrith at home for a top of the table league clash.

Keswick planned to exploit Penrith’s lack of confidence due to a recent heavy league loss and as we have already beaten them twice this season in Friendlies.

To achieve this we asked the team to go for a really strong start and put Penrith under intense pressure and try and secure as many as points as possible in the first half. Putting them on the back foot and in turn raising our confidence and self belief.

The lasses understood the mission and achieved it, leading 31-0 at 1/2 time with Penrith only entering Keswick’s defending 1/2 of the pitch for a brief 5 minute spell.

Tries had been scored by Willow x 3 with her also converting 3. Teagan and Abbie.

The second 1/2 allowed the U18 coaches to play less experienced and confident players and also gave the squad the opportunity to try a few new moves which we have been developing in training.

The Keswick players coped well with the changes and kept the pressure on, allowing very few breaks from Penrith, with solid tacking been demonstrated by all.

Forwards strength in rucking and driving forward was much improved from last week and the backs were slick in executing moves. Both coaching points we had worked on, which is always rewarding to see them listen, improve and succeed from ?

The second 1/2 score was 20-0. Tries by Teagan, Willow, Scarlett and Abbie.

No individual try break downs as the game was so fast paced with a lot of subs to juggle (a luxury but sometimes a distracting headache too!)

Final score 51-0, game finished 7 minutes early.

Opposition player of the match: Willow
Coaches player of the match: Ruby

Keswick U18 girls remain top of their league, although the infamous Houghton have a number of fixtures still to fulfil and so have a few games in hand, but we are taking being top for now ?
