Keswick took to the grove with firm ground, dry skies and 21players! Already happy coaches.
From the off Keswick worked hard and kept the pressure on the opposition. With much improved rucking (possibly the return of Louis H and Reuben helped this!) Harry Goodman was able to move the ball cleanly to hard runners or to the stand off ‘Reggie’. This set the state of play with Euan Edwards, Mikey Combes and Tim Fuggle using their pace and strength to continually break the gain line. The pressure persisted with Keswick scoring five tries in the first half and Reggie converting four of them.
Areas of note where players worked well were holding the player up in a maul and turning the ball over, crashing up the channels either side of the breakdown and capitalising on losse ball.
Our front row Kwe, Nooh, Brian, Ash, our new addition to the team Emeka (a great strength to the tight five) and Seth all brought hard lines off the fringes.
The second half brought a few changes in position and released players off the bench.
Ultimately this broke the flow of the Keswick game. They adjusted well, although with this lapse Creighton increased the pressure, found gaps and crossed the line.
Keswick came back with relentless tackling, turnovers and encouraging communication.
We lost Brad through injury, who tackles, jackles and runs like two men. Again the Keswick pack stepped up.
Mistakes were made and thankfully the backs reacted quickly, using their fast legs to work down the pitch.
Keswick scored a further three tries all converted.
Keswick 54-5 Creighton
Keswick can take many positives from today’s performance which they will need to take into next week’s match at Percy park.
