Keswick U15s round robin with Carlisle and Kendal. Sunday 30th November 2025

Challenging day for keen Kestrels

Time to reflect on the tough day in the office.

A sunny day with two matches to play in our round robin vs Carlisle and Kendal.

We started our day against Carlisle with a more than capable 15, only with players out of position! This proved to be our tipping point!!

Keswick were unable to secure clean ball in the rucks, due to a very determined Carlisle pack. In turn this put pressure when playing wide, with passes not going to hand. Carlisle reacted quickly and picked up on loose ball. Using good depth and speed Carlisle powered through the Keswick defence. Several tries by Carlisle left Keswick with out a comeback. Determination and grit was not Keswick’s downfall, communication and movement forwards in both attack and defence were. The first half finished 46-0.

The second half vs Kendal following a break and haribos saw a more revitalised Keswick. We were able to see more movement forward and the ball moving between hands. Kendal not showing the speed in defence that Carlisle had allowed Keswick to break the line several times. Unfortunately nothing came of the breaks and the Keswick reactions were not quick enough to secure the ball. Kendal moved the ball well in the backs and used their wingers speed to there delight.
There was one ray of light in the closing minutes, Keswick won the ball in the scrum and moved it through hands to the fast and nimble feet of Tim fuggle, who scored beneath the posts. Reggie Ray with the ever accurate boot slotted the conversion. Final score 26-7

Us coaches will go back to the board, shouldering the result and consider what needs to be applied in the game management. The players did not stop and continued to show great determination to the very last minute. In many ways there is much to be proud of, to which we will persevere and work on a more team cohesive performance.
