Keswick U14s 17 V Kirkby Lonsdale 41
Kirkby Lonsdale were a very well drilled side who caused problems both through the middle and on the outside edges. A slow start found Keswick 4 tries down very quickly.
The Keswick players needed to raise there game in attack and defence. Thankfully they did. The defensive effort upped with Captain George Johnson leading the way with his trademark thunderous tackling. The front row of James Cartmell, Louis Ohan and Charlie Sams found their feet in the scrum after initial pressure to provide the platform for the backs.
The effort increased from all players as pressure was applied to Kirkby Lonsdale.
Keswick were rewarded with 3 tries throughout the game. Noah Gruners and Thomas Downies carrying was superb. Forward of the match, Riley Alston carried hard, tackled low and put in a great shift in the backrow. Back of the match Luca Gruner took no messing from anyone, including older brother Noah and organised the side well in both attack and defence.
Kirkby Lonsdale however were always a threat and scored several more tries through quick passing.
Despite the score line the lads continued to work hard for each other. When a mistake was made there was someone there to slap them on the back, tell them to forget about it and to focus on the next job.
Thank you to Ben King the match day referee. The game was physically tough but played in good spirits and we look forward to the next one.
