Grasmere Distillery has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the local community by sponsoring the kit of our Falcons Women’s Touch Team

Grassroots clubs like ours depend heavily on the support of local businesses. Without sponsors, opportunities like this simply wouldn’t be possible. Thanks to sponsors Grasmere Distillery, Lingholm Estate and L G Photography, the team will look the part t

From the start of the new campaign, the Falcons Touch Team will take to the field in a brand-new, custom-designed kit that gives the team a unified and professional look as they represent Keswick at matches and festivals across the region. The kit proudly features the Grasmere Distillery logo alongside those of fellow sponsors Lingholm Estate and L G Photography.

Throughout the season, the team will compete in a series of friendly fixtures against local clubs including Cockermouth, Wigton, Arlecdon, and Silloth, as well as taking part in several touch rugby festivals. With a squad of over 20 players, fielding seven at a time, the team is guided by coach Alan Weightman.

One of the Falcons’ defining strengths is their inclusivity. The squad brings together women ranging from their twenties to sixties, highlighting the accessibility of touch rugby as a non-contact, fast-paced version of the game. Welcoming players of all ages, fitness levels, and sporting backgrounds, Keswick Rugby Football Club actively encourages newcomers to join their weekly sessions, get involved, and experience the sport’s friendly, supportive atmosphere. Sessions are held at 6.30pm on Wednesdays at Keswick Rugby Club.

Beth Abbott, co-owner of Grasmere Distillery and a Falcons Touch Rugby squad member, said: “Grasmere Distillery is delighted to support grassroots sport through this sponsorship. Touch rugby is not only a fantastic way to stay active, but also a truly inclusive and welcoming sport. As a local business, we believe it’s important to give back to the community, and we hope this partnership helps the team continue to grow and inspire more women to get involved. Both personally and professionally I’m delighted Grasmere Distillery Dry Gin is available behind the bar at the rugby club too!”

The Falcons Touch team’s first outing in their new kit will be at the opening Touch Rugby Tournament of the year on Friday, 19th September at 6:30pm at Davidson Park, the home of Keswick Rugby Club. Spectators are warmly encouraged to come along and cheer on the team.
