After a four day camel ride to get there, we arrived at a windy but dry Billingham. We were playing on their 3G pitch, which was welcomed after the very wet conditions at Keswick lately. We had reduced numbers due to availability/ sickness with 13 players. Billingham offered us two players as they had 20 plus.
The girls hit the ground running from the first whistle. Good running and offloading saw our first try from a couple of phrases from the forwards and strong running from the backs getting the ball over the line.
Billingham hit back after a couple of minutes with a try from a fast winger.
The girls were against a strong wind but dug in, making good tackles and securing the ball at the breakdown. After a lot of hard work from all, we got to half time a couple of scores ahead.
As the second half got underway with the wind behind us, the girls started putting good moves together, and the scores kept coming. Billingham had a couple of break away tries, but the momentum was with the Keswick. Quick penalties, pick and go, close support, well worked backs moves, overrun the opposition. Individuals' performance and team performance with low numbers and away from home were outstanding. We'll done Girls fantastic result.
I have to give a big thanks to the two emergency referees. Billingham was let down by two refs. So Mark Lee stood up, and Mike Deakin found his whistle, and they both did a great job!!!
