Keswick encounter a strong team at Cockermouth

Keswick travelled to Cockermouth with the bare 15, this meant players playing out of their preferred position. Keswick chose to kick off and immediately realised that Cockermouth had some big strong runners, which lead to Cockermouth scoring their first try. This was a wake up call and Keswick began to put pressure on both attack and defence, led in the midfield by Tom Stafford and Joe Slack, who along with Isaac Bell at stand off, put in some good tackles.

Keswick's pack which was missing a prop, so it meant Chris Fidoe moving from number 8 to prop along with Jake Graves and Seb Sanderson at hooker. This proved a good combination along with a second row of Jim Trotman and Archie Fillingham, who pushed Cockermouth off their ball on several occasions. Keswick growing in confidence moved the ball well from the rucks, scrum half Jacob Fell recycled the ball well which lead to Tom Stafford scoring Keswick's first try. Nat Relph and Sam Day playing on the flank for the first time, worked tirelessly in defence and attack along with number eight Louis Jenkinson, who made the ankle tap of the season.

Keswick fullback Simon Cornthwaite made some powerful runs, unfortunately for him and wingers Sam Stone and Charlie Cartmell, this was a match played largely in the midfield and they saw very little of the ball but put in some brave tackles. Keswick kept their heads up and played with guts and determination and were rewarded with another try when Chris Fidoe powered his way over the line. This was a good team performance which we will build on at training next Sunday. Meet 10.15am for 10.30am start as usual.
